Sharon Mandeville

Career

With a Diploma in Marketing and experience in both retail and corporate banking, Sharon rose to the position of Marketing Communications Director for Barclays Corporate Banking. With responsibility for both internal and external communications, brand management, corporate hospitality and events, advertising and web marketing, she ran a large and complex department.

She left Barclays to join the Financial Times as Marketing Director for the magazine arm, where she was responsible for the marketing of a series of high profile magazines including the Investors Chronicle and The Banker.

When Sharon and Amanda met as freelance marketeers, they instantly recognised complementary skills, experience and a similar outlook. With a determination to only take on clients where they were confident of making a real difference, Marketing Squared was created. Today, clients include PLCs, service specialists, not-for-profit and public sector organisations.

Particular passions

  • Keeping things simple and avoiding jargon – customers are just too busy to try to work out complex messages.
  • Being honest with people about what works and what doesn’t. If a client won’t benefit from a particular marketing approach that could cost them a great deal of money, she will tell them so.
  • People – Sharon just loves them. They are all so different and she has not found anyone yet that she has not enjoyed working with.

To work with

Sharon rises to the challenge of complex, difficult tasks. A good communicator and facilitator, she deals with difficult issues in such a way that everyone feels good about the outcome. Not at all afraid of pointing out the obstacles, she will also propose solutions. Fiercely proud of her record of delivery, she takes on every challenge as though it were her first.
